Any cosmetic surgery procedure takes time to recover from before you will feel like yourself again. It is a common understanding that that for every hour under a general anaesthetic and surgery, it will take a full month to recover.

The main questions we field with our clients involve how soon they can go back to doing normal activities, such as exercise. With most procedures your surgeon will advise 6 - 8 weeks after surgery for light exercise such as walking, pilates, or yoga and 6 months before you can lift heavy weights.

There are things you can do, however, that will help speed the process to feeling a lot better. These can start before your surgery. 

1.  Do not drink a lot of liquids 12 hours before surgery as this can contribute to nausea after surgery

2.  Try and exercise and be as fit as possible before surgery.

3.  Cut out the alcahol 4 weeks prior to surgery and at least 2 weeks after.

4. Drink lots of water after your surgery to help eliminate the anaesthetics from your body after surgery.

5.  Try to eat and drink healthy after surgery with foods that repair, such as fruit, eggs, milk and dairy.

6.  Get as much bed rest as you can and do not overdo the activities in the first few days after surgery.

7.  Do not swim in pools at your hotel. Pools are notorious germ carriers and you may get infections.

8.  Stay in air conditioned rooms as much as possible when in hot climates.

9.  Take it easy for the first few days after surgery and only go out for small amounts of time to begin with. Thirty - forty minutes initially and then build up gradually. 

10. Keep your bandages dry and apply all your creams as directed by your surgeon.

11. Get a vitamin cream to apply to wounds once the stitches have been removed, to help with skin repair and to avoid scarring. 

12. Take all the medications the surgeon gives you and do not skip these. While taking them do not drink any sort of alcahol. 

13. When you return home, get the family to help with preparing meals, doing chores and esp laundry. 

14. Do not carry children for 6 - 8 weeks after surgery.

15. Set some time for yourself to relax and unwind.

16. Discuss with the family ahead of time what sort of help you will need. Wear your compression garments for the amount of time the surgeon has recommended.
